Dataset Description

Expression of 3 different human embryonic stem cell (ESC) lines was compared to the expression of over 79 tissues to determine whether or not a particular gene was expressed at relatively high or low levels in ESCs versus other tissues. The results are expressed as percent of maximal expression (for each probeset across all microarrays examined - see MAPP legend for cut-offs). Gene expression values were obtained by performing GCRMA analysis on all microarrays. Phenotypic data is shown (specifically embryonic lethality or postnatal lethality) from ortholgous mouse genes using the Mouse Genome Infomatics (MGI) database. Each vertical stripe in the gene box represents a different piece of information specified in the MAPP legend. This is an example of the multiple color set view feature, which is new to GenMAPP version 2.1.

Note: Affymetrix detection calls were used as a threshold in deciding whether to report expression values. Probesets expressed at 0% of maximal tissue expression were eliminated as a result of an absent expression call. Probesets with absent calls for all tissues examined were removed prior to GenMAPP analysis. Of the ~22k probesets analyzed, over 6k were removed as a result of insufficient evidence for expression.
