The Object Toolbox contains preformed graphics. The use of these objects is being phased out by GenMAPP.org. They are included in this version of the program to preserve backwards-compatibility with existing MAPPs. These objects are placed on the Drafting Board similarly to objects found in the Drafting Board Toolbar. The Object Toolbox window can be opened by left-clicking on the Tools > Object Toolbox menu or by pressing Ctrl + T. Alternatively, they can be accessed via the More button in the Drafting Board Toolbar. The Object Toolbox first appears on the left side of the screen, but may be moved anywhere. You can close the window by left-clicking the close button in the Object Toolbox title bar or minimize it by clicking the minimize button. When you restore it, the window appears where you left it. If you minimize it, you can restore it from the Task Bar. If you close it, you can open it from the Tools > Object Toolbox.
To keep track of which Object Toolbox window belongs to which Drafting Board easily when multiple instances of the GenMAPP program are running, the filename of the MAPP is displayed immediately below the title bar of the appropriate Object Toolbox window.

The Object Toolbox contains a preformed generic eukaryotic cell with a black nucleus, as well as a smaller black oval that can be used to represent a nucleus in other contexts. Cells and nuclei are placed on the Drafting Board like other objects. A cell can be moved by left-clicking on it to select it and dragging the center target to a new location. If you are having trouble selecting it, try left-clicking near the center of the object. A cell cannot be rotated or change its size or color. |

The black nucleus is just another copy of the oval tool from the Drafting Board Toolbar that has been colored black. To move a nucleus, left-click on it and drag the center target to a new location. Drag the edge target to elongate it on either axis, or the circular point to rotate it. If you hold down the shift key while dragging either of the sizing (edge) points, the nucleus (oval) will become a perfect circle, its size set by the target you dragged. Holding the shift key while dragging the circular target rotates the oval to the nearest 45º angle.
The nucleus is the only object in the Object Toolbox that can change its color. To change the color, right-click on the edge of the oval and pick a color from the Color window that appears.
The nucleus can be combined with lines to make a row of cells. These can represent epithelial cells, for example.

The Object Toolbox contains a grouping of four gray circles that can be used to represent a protein complex or tetramer. The protein complex can be placed on the Drafting Board like other objects. To move the protein complex, left-click on it to select it and drag the center target to a new location. The size of the protein complex may be increased or decreased by dragging the edge edit target. The protein complex cannot be rotated or its color changed. |

The Object Toolbox contains a pair of black ovals that can be used to represent a ribosome. The ribosome can be placed on the Drafting Board like other objects. To move a ribosome, left-click on it to select it and drag the center target to a new location. A ribosome cannot be rotated and its size or color cannot be changed. |
The Object Toolbox contains a plain oval and one with lobes that can be combined to represent the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus. They can be placed on the Drafting Board like other objects. These two objects can be moved by left-clicking on them individually and dragging their center targets to a new location. They cannot be rotated and their size or color cannot be changed. |

The Object Toolbox contains a double circle that can be used to represent a vesicle or organelle. The vesicle can be placed on the Drafting Board like other objects. To move a vesicle, left-click on it to select it and drag the center target to a new location. A vesicle cannot be rotated and its size or color cannot be changed. |

Various regular polygons are available in the Object Toolbox, currently a
triangle, pentagon, and hexagon. A polygon may
be
placed
on the
Drafting Board like other objects.
To move, size, or rotate a polygon,
left-click on an edge to select it. To move the polygon, drag
the center target to a new location. To size the polygon, drag
the edge target closer to or farther from the center target. To rotate
it, drag the circular target. Holding the shift key while
dragging the circular target rotates the polygon to the nearest 45º
angle. To fill the polygon with color, right-click
on the edge and
pick a color from the
Color
window that appears.
Polygons are available in GenMAPP 2.1 builds 20060601 and later. |
